City of Hull Band

BASS TROMBONE

Will Hairsine:

Will originally joined the band in 1993 when he was a student of Bob Childs. He played tenor trombone until Bob realised that his true calling was on Bass Trombone! Will was lucky enough to play with the band in three National Finals, one in the First Section and two in the Championship section. During this time, he was also the Bass Trombone for the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain, the National Youth Brass Quintet of Great Britain and gained a Performance Associateship from the Royal College of Music.

On moving to Leicester to read Politics at University, Will started his 25 year hiatus with the band, he instead joined the Royal Navy and sailed most of the seven seas, highlights of this time being the rescue of 2500 people from Beirut, the removal of Chemical Weapons from Syria and a return to the Albert Hall under the direction of Nick Childs with Woodfalls band.

On retirement from the Naval Service, he and his family moved back to God's County and his trombone continued to gather dust until someone let slip he was in the area and the City of Hull Band asked both Will and his trombone to come out of retirement.

On rejoining the band Will was soon appointed Band Sergeant, an appointment that trumps any rank or accolade gained in the military. Will is looking forward to reacquainting himself with performing at the Royal Albert Hall as the band continues to go from strength to strength!
